As published in the Calgary Herald, May 25, 2000Rocky Mountain Wildlife on Web siteA Canmore man has launched an extensive Web site giving details about virtually every plant and animal in the Rocky Mountains and tips for identifying them. Naturalist, photographer and all-around mountain guru Ward Cameron is behind the site, www.MountainNature.com, which offers a mass of well-organized information about the Rockies. "Millions of people visit the mountains every year, yet most leave with little more than photographs and memories. Before you head out, visit MountainNature.com where you can access all the tools necessary to become an expert naturalist," Cameron said. One of the major focuses of the Web site is to help amateurs become better naturalists by providing them with knowledge about species and tips on identifying wildlife. The site also offers a free database of sightings for naturalists who want to log what they've seen in the Rockies. Cameron has written four books on the Canadian Rockies, including two mountain biking guide books, and has worked as a naturalist in Ontario and Alberta. He also wrote a nature column in Canmore's local newspaper for five years and offers guided tours in the Bow Valley. |
