MountainNature.com's bear test has been an resounding
success. To date almost 500 respondents have completed the test. Early results were based on a
preliminary sampling of 350 respondents. These current results are based
on the full 500+ respondents. The test

and safety. Click here to view

How much do you really know about bears? As more and more
people head out into the mountain wilderness, the chances of meeting black
and grizzly bears also increases.
Listen to a CBC Radio Interview with Ward about this exciting test.
The Calgary
Herald says "A Canmore based web site dealing with mountain
nature has added a section about bear safety in response to the rash of
human/bear encounters in Kananaskis Country this summer"
"The difference, however is that MountainNature.com
uses the identification of plants as a way to prevent those
encounters"
The Canmore
Leader says "These and other questions are part of a new interactive
bear-awareness web-test created by Ward Cameron, a local naturalist,
historian, author, photographer and storyteller."
"The questions are aimed at educating people on bear
activities and habits."
"There's so much literature focused on what to do
when you see a bear, instead of what are the tools we need to minimize our
chances of having an unwanted encounter with a bear," he said.
MountainNature.com has attracted extensive media
coverage lately. The Banff
Crag and Canyon says "MountainNature.com allows people to use
book-like tools on-line to identify species and then follow up with a
database record that biologists can use in their research to help preserve
wilderness."
"Naturalist, photographer and all-around mountain
guru Ward Cameron is behind the site, www.MountainNature.com
which offers a mass of well-organized information about the Rockies"
says the Calgary Herald in a May
25, 2000 profile. Mickey Dumont, the Herald's outdoor columnist also
profiled site founder Ward Cameron in a
June
2, article under the headline "Time Ripe for Cameron to turn
Cybernaturalist."
Margie Taylor of the CBC Alberta Mid-day program says
"It's fascinating, I think it's going to be very helpful to
people...I'm looking forward to getting at it myself."
