Least Chipmunk
Eutamias minimus

Chipmunks, Squirrels, Ground Squirrels and Marmots

Measurement: Size: 22 cm Weight: 40-50 g (1.4-1.75 oz)

Description: Our tiniest chipmunk, the least chipmunk has a striped back with the five dark stripes running along the back and extending through the eyes and towards the tip of the nose. The dark lines are separated by light stripes. The underside is white. Other than the lack of a yellowish tinge to the coat, the least chipmunk is difficult to differentiate from the similar yellow pine chipmunk.

Range: The least chipmunk is found through large parts of Canada, and throughout the Canadian and American Rockies.

Diet: Seeds, primarily but they vary their diet based upon what is available. This may include insects, berries and nuts.

Reproduction: They produce a single litter each year with between 2 and 7 young each year. Gestation is 28-31 days.
