Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae)
Cut-leaved Anemone/Windflower
Anemone multifida
Season: Spring/Summer
Habitat: Montane on both sides of Continental Divide
Height: Up to 45 cm
Description: Common on both the plains and in the mountains, the windflower is a delicate, yet beautiful wildflower. It has large, hairy, finely dissected, many lobed leaves. They grow out of the base, on long erect leaf stalks, and also part way along the hairy stem. The flowers are approximately 1 cm across, with 5-8 petals (actually sepals). The colour may not be white, but slightly purple or red. There maybe several flowers on each plant. The flowers are replaced by a woolly, thimble-like cluster of hairy seeds.
