Blue or Purple Flowers ( Five Petals with Violet-like Flowers )
Violet Family (Violaceae)

Early Blue Violet
Viola adunca

Season: Early May to Mid July
Habitat:
 Montane Dry Woods
Height:
 Up to 10 cm

Description: This early violet is difficult to miss as its bright blue flowers have little competition to detract from their beauty. Growing very early in the season, they are one of the first splashes of colour following the crocus and coltsfoot flowers. The violet-shaped flowers are blue in colour, with some white at the centre. The lower leaf, or lip, has purple veins visible. The leaves vary in shape from heart-shaped to kidney shaped (heart shaped without the point). They are slightly toothed and basal.
