Height: 30-80 cm
Description: This perennial is quite common along the western side of the divide. It has compound leaves that occur in a palm-like arrangement of 5-9 smooth-margined leaflets that often fold along the central vein. The flowers occur in a large, dense spike of purple pea-like flowers.
This plant is capable of drawing nitrogen from the air, and releasing it to the soil, thus enriching areas in which it grows.
