Description: This plant almost defines spring in the montane. It has a basal clump of compound leaves, each containing up to 31 smooth-margined leaflets. An erect, slightly hairy stem terminates in a tight cluster of yellow, pea-like flowers. Poisonous to cattle, the term locoweed refers to the effects of this plants poisons on unwitting cows.
