Pink or Red Flowers ( Five Petals Leafs Mainly Basal )
Wintergreen Family (Pyrolaceae)

Pink Wintergreen/Pink Pyrola
Pyrola asarifolia

Season: July to Early August
Habitat:
 Montane Coniferous Forests
Height:
 10-20 cm

Description: Walking through the needle carpeted floors of our coniferous forests, the pretty pink flower-heads of the pink pyrola offers a pleasant, but easily missed contrast. The leaves form a basal clump. They are almost round, shiny and deep green--they even stay that way throughout the winter--hence the alternate name pink wintergreen. At the end of an erect, waxy, pink stem, a small cluster (raceme) of nodding pink flowers bloom.
