Description: This low, yellow violet has round toothed, almost round, basal leaves. From this rises several short flower stalks, each bearing a yellow violet. The five petals are streaked with purple veins.

Another violet, the yellow mountain violet (V. glabella), is much taller, up to 30 cm. In addition, the leaves are more sharply toothed and almost heart-shaped. The flower bearing stalk has one or more pairs of opposite leaves, above which the purple veined yellow flowers bloom.
