Pink or Red Flowers

Description: the round-leaved orchid, like the calypso orchid, provides an unexpected pleasure when discovered. It's pink and white flowers, are exceedingly delicate. Look closely at the flower. Each one resembles an angel in polkadot robes with a pink hood and white wings.
Flower: The flowers occur in a terminal cluster (raceme) of 2-8 pink and white flowers. The individual flowers have two pink sepals joining above the flower to form a hood. Two pale pink lateral petals spread widely, and the white, notched tongue has purple spots. The spur is slightly curved. The flowers are approximately 1 cm in length.
Leaf: There is a single, basal, almost round, clasping leaf.
Fruit/Seed: Ellipsoid capsule, 15 mm long.
Similar Species: The fairyslipper (Calypso bulbosa) is somewhat similar, but has only a single flower per stem.
Range: Round-leaved orchid can be found throughout most of eastern British Columbia, Alberta and east to Newfoundland and south through Idaho, Wyoming, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
