White Flowers ( Buttercup-Like Flowers )
Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae)

Globeflower
Trollius laxus

Season: Summer
Habitat:
 Subalpine Moist Meadows
Height:
 Up to 30 cm

Description: When hiking through moist alpine meadows, keep an eye out for the globeflower. It has a thick, hairless stem and shiny, deep-green, 5-lobed maple-like leaves. 5-10 creamy, petal-like sepals surround yellow stamens and a greenish central pistil. The lobes of the leaves overlap to conceal their maple-style dissection. When the flowers are partially closed, they resemble small globes, hence the name.
