Do you think communities like Canmore should implement restrictions on bird feeders to help reduce the number of bears attracted to these easy food sources?

Access to human food is a powerful attractant and once bears loose ther fear of humans, they become even more dangerous

Bird feeders are an irresistable temptation to bears trying to fatten up for hibernation -- instinct compels them to seek them out. But fed bears are nuisance bears, which are dead bears.

All enticements to wander from the bush should be eliminated. Of course, town planners could make castle-style condos, with a central courtyard, then all wildlife can move wherever it wishes. The people can take turns playing games in courtyards. Elevated transit systems would allow animals to roam freely. Skytrains could evolve into much more than people movers.

It is essential that we do what we can to minimize human / bear interaction. Reducing this interaction can help to minimize attacks, as well as the need to kill bears that have become a threat.
