Location: Jasper National Park, Icefields Parkway, south of Jasper Townsite, AB, Canada, UTM: 11U 456242 E / 5820488 N

Vital Statistics: Elevation: 1390 Metres (4,559 Feet)  

Formation Mechanism: Hard Cap Rock

Topographic Map: 83c12 Athabasca Falls

Description: Natural features often affect the course of rivers. Here the Sunwapta River makes an abrupt turn to bypass a glacial moraine. It also took advantage of a fault (crack) in the local bedrock to result in the steep canyon visible downstream.
